  Asher Bank 

  School Counselor, Bronxville

  Bio

  Asher Bank (he/him) is a recent graduate from Teachers College, Columbia University, where he earned an M.A. in Psychological Counseling and an Ed.M. in School Counseling. During  graduate school, Asher spent a year working as a Literacy Mentor at an after-school program in Harlem, where he received training in the Science of Reading and Orton Gillingham approaches. Asher also spent two summers working as a Unit Head Counselor at a day camp for campers in 3rd through 8th grade. Asher completed his counseling internships at a specialized high school in the NYC DOE and an elementary school in the NYC DOE. Asher is so excited to join the team at FlexSchool this year as a School Counselor!

  Ashley Bove 

  School Counselor, Bronxville

  Bio

  After interning at FlexSchool during the 2021-22 school year, Ashley is excited to return as a school counselor! She recently graduated from New York University with her master’s in social work as she has a passion for serving others. Ashley has experience working with children and adolescents in various capacities. She has worked with teenagers in a psychiatric setting and has worked with children with diverse mental health and educational needs. Ashley has also worked at summer camps, and even served as a Peace Corps volunteer teaching children life skills in Thailand. She strives to be an advocate for the youth she works with and looks forward to connecting with the students at FlexSchool.

  Trudy Hanmer 

  College Counselor

  Bio

  Trudy Hanmer worked for 42 years as a college counselor, history teacher, and school administrator, first at Nichols School in Buffalo, and for the last thirty-five years of her career at Emma Willard School in Troy, New York.  She retired in 2015.  She is also a writer and has published a dozen non-fiction books for middle school readers on topics ranging from Uganda to rock and roll.  In addition, she wrote a history of Emma Willard School in conjunction with the celebration of the school’s 200th birthday in 2014.  She lives in downtown Troy with her millennial daughter, her rescue dog, Sadie, her grand-dog, Kenya, and will soon add a kitten named Sam to the family.

  Karen Lindstrom 

  Learning Specialist, Berkeley Heights

  Bio

  Karen brings more than a decade of teaching experience in both middle and high school. She holds a Masters in Education - Mild to Moderate Disabilities from San Francisco State University, and a BA in French from the University of Wisconsin. Karen started her teaching career at an alternative high school in Oakland, California that allowed students a second chance to earn credits and graduate on time. She also piloted an alternative program for at-risk youth at a high school in northern Minnesota. Most recently, she co-taught 6th and 7th grade math and ELA at a high performing middle school north of Milwaukee. Service learning has also played an important role in her career. She is a returned Peace Corps Volunteer and a Teach for America alumni. She resides in New Jersey with her husband and two children. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, cooking and spending time with family.

  Mary McInerney 

  Learning Specialist, Bronxville

  Bio

  Mary McInerney is a seasoned educator with nearly forty years of experience, specializing in educating twice-exceptional (2e) students.  She holds a BA in Elementary Education, an MA in Gifted Education, and an EdD from the Bridge Doctorate Program in Cognitive Diversity. Mary’s career includes serving as an educational consultant in Westchester, NY, where she supported 2e students and their families for eight years. She also worked as a Learning Specialist at Bridges Academy's sister school in Seattle, WA, before joining Bridges Academy to teach Humanities.

   

  Now at the Bronxville campus, Mary is thrilled to continue her work as a learning specialist, where she will be supporting both our teachers and students. She will also be teaching creative writing. Her innovative approach to writing emphasizes viewing it as an art form, which fosters a classroom environment that encourages exploration, risk-taking, and personal expression. She aims to inspire students to take ownership of their writing and discover the joy in their creative voices. We can look forward to her book Creative Writing with Miss Mary Mac, coming out this Spring through first/second publishing. 

   

  Outside of her professional life, Mary adores her two grown children and enjoys art, nature, yoga, hiking, kayaking, and spending quality time with friends, family, and her cherished dog, Maeve.

  Jamie Schagelin 

  School Counselor, Berkeley Heights

  Bio

  Jamie Schagelin joined FlexSchool’s Student Support Team in 2024 as School Counselor for our Berkeley Heights campus. Jamie brings over ten years of counseling experience, including several years as a school counselor and many years working in children's crisis intervention at Saint Clare's Hospital. Jamie holds a master's degree in school counseling and post-graduate licensure in clinical counseling. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology with a concentration in substance abuse counseling. Jamie practices a solution-focused counseling approach that incorporates intentional listening, reflective feedback, and passion for positive communication among the whole school community.

  Caroline Schuepbach 

  School Counselor, Cloud Campus

  Bio

  Caroline is so excited to be joining the FlexSchool team. Caroline has her M.Ed in Professional Counseling from Georgia Southern University. Originally from New Jersey, she now lives in  South Georgia with her husband, Nik, and two kids Amelia (3) and Jack (9 months). Counseling has always been a passion of Caroline's, beginning when she sought counseling herself upon leaving for college. She believes being a counselor is a critical role in not only mental and personal health, but academic success. She is looking forward to growing and learning with FlexSchool!

  Katherine Suitor 

  Learning Specialist, Cloud Campus

  Bio

  Having grown up on the campus of a residential summer camp, Kasey has always had a passion for alternative education. She graduated from Bowdoin College with a degree in International Relations and French but quickly realized that international politics was not her calling! She returned to school to get her Master's in Education from Concordia University with a focus in Inclusive Education. Since then, she has worked to help students find more meaningful ways to connect with their academics and find success at school. She lives in Maine on a farm with her husband, dog, cat, rabbit, and four horses (including her foal who was born here in July!). When she is not teaching at FlexSchool, she runs an educational program here on the farm that blends academics and animals. Kasey loves hiking and camping and spends most weekends when it's warm hiking around New England. She also loves biking, skiing, running, and most recently, skijoring. She’s looking forward to getting to know everyone at FlexSchool and helping each student find their best way to learn.
