Bartow-Pell Mansion Field Trip

On a crisp, sunny December day, Bronxville students visited the historic Bartow-Pell Mansion, one of the best-preserved Greek Revival structures in the United States. They explored all corners of the estate featuring the main living quarters, a carriage house, manicured gardens, and a Native American wigwam. While touring the beautiful Federal-style interior decorated for the holidays, they learned about the lives of the Bartow family and made connections to their own. Of particular interest were the cool toys, games, period clothing, and unique grooming and bathing elements offering a window into nineteenth-century culture. After impressing the museum guides with insightful questions, the students collaborated to solve historical clues that opened a series of lockboxes. They were rewarded for their efforts with a delicious piece of artisanal sorghum sugar candy.
